Liposuction / liposelection is a surgical procedure which removes excess fat through use of a suction device. Used correctly, liposuction can be remarkably useful for removing fat deposits around the body, especially for patients whose fat deposits may be a result of genetics. Liposuction / liposelection procedures are performed at our bod:evolve surgery center in Denver and Lone Tree Colorado. With liposuction surgery, fat is removed by making tiny incisions in the treated area, then placing a small tube, known as a cannula, through the incisions. Incisions are made in such a manner as to render them as unnoticeable as possible. The cannula is connected to a suction unit, which works by vacuuming away excess fat from the treated area.

After your surgery, you will be moved to a recovery area for the next few hours, where our staff will monitor how your body has responded to the surgery. Before going home, our staff will also give you clear and detailed instructions regarding your recovery.

Each human body responds differently during the healing process. For the first few days after surgery, you will be required to change your bandages several times a day. Patients will have some swelling and bruising, which may last up to several weeks. Some patients also experience numbness in the treated areas. Most patients are able to return to work after a few days. During your consultation, your doctor will discuss with you in depth what to expect during your recovery period.

Liposuction is a procedure which permanently removes fat; this means that your treated area will maintain its results as long as you maintain your pre-surgery weight. Liposuction is not a substitute for a weight-loss program, but it can be very effective for removing localized weight. Should you gain some weight in the future, the weight may be distributed more evenly along your body, instead of going straight to your problem area as before. Every surgical procedure carries with it a small chance of complications, and liposuction / liposelection is no different. Our doctors are highly experienced professionals who perform hundreds of liposuction procedures per year. Unlikely risks include asymmetry of the treated area, or a rippling or baggy quality in the skin after surgery. This result was more likely when liposuction was a new procedure, but with recent advances this has become far less common of a problem. Other risks include injury to the skin or pigmentation change. During your consultation, your doctor will speak at length with you about the risks associated with a liposuction / liposelection procedure, and will also take the time to assure you of his extensive experience.
