The surgery for breast augmentation will take approximately 1 ½ hours and is performed at Renewal Medical Center, a state-of-the-art surgical facility that is owned and operated by Dr. Millard and Dr. Broadway. Renewal Surgery Center is located in the same structure as bod:evolve helping to make you surgical experience as easy and pleasant as possible.

Breast augmentation is a major procedure, and you should expect to feel tired and sore for a few days after your surgery. The healing process will take some time, and our staff will educate you on recovery issues such as medication, bandage removal, and caring for your incisions.

Each person's body heals differently, but most patients are able to return to work the week after surgery. You may drive once you have been off your pain medication for 24 hours, and you should avoid physical stimulation of the breast for a few weeks after surgery (usually 3-4 weeks). Your operative scars will also take time to blend in with the rest of your body.

As a prospective patient, what should I know about breast augmentation?

When considering cosmetic surgery, you have the right as a patient to know all the possible risks associated with a given procedure. Any surgical operation has risks associated with it, but augmentation mammoplasty is a well-researched procedure and the risk of complications is quite low. When you meet with our doctors, be frank and honest about your concerns. Our doctors will be happy to speak openly about their experience with the procedure, and the possibility of complications during and following surgery.

With augmentation mammoplasty, there is the possibility of excessive bleeding following the operation, which could cause increased swelling and pain in the affected area. If excessive bleeding becomes a problem, it may be necessary to have another operation in order to stop the bleeding. Excessive bleeding, however, is a rare complication.

It is also possible for the treated area to become infected; for this reason, we will provide you with intravenous antibiotics during the surgery, and oral antibiotics afterwards. The majority of possible infections are mild ones. Other risks include capsular contracture, where a scar or capsule may tighten around the implant. This is treated by removing part or some of the scar tissue. It is possible that nerves around the breast may be cut or damaged before the insertion of the implant. If this occurs, the nerves will usually take some time to recover. Another complication is if the saline leaks from a saline breast implant. This is not a medical issue, as the saline fluid is a body-friendly liquid that is absorbed without any difficulty. The implant, however, will need to be replaced.

After receiving a breast augmentation, it is recommended that you continue receiving routine mammograms. Mammographic technicians can account for breast implants in their readings, so that an implant does not affect the reliability of a mammogram.
