What is VASER® Hi Definition Liposculpture?

Today, the most desired anatomy, among both men and women, is one that reveals a well toned, athletic physique. Many of us attempt to achieve the “perfect body” by spending a large amount of time in the gym, performing hours of rigorous exercise, and ingesting grams of protein. Yet, in spite of our dedication and devotion to the gym, we still have trouble seeing muscular definition. The muscles are there, but without getting down to 3-4% body fat, which typically can only be obtained by elite athletes, we visually don’t appear as defined as we know possible.

While traditional liposuction procedures simply reduce circumference, VASER® Hi Def Lipo takes it a step further. With the surgeon’s strong understanding of the human body and a great appreciation for the arts, this new technique literally allows the surgeon to create space between different muscle groups, helping to define certain underlying muscles. By targeting both deep and superficial fat, the surgeon’s trained eye will precisely remove just the right amount of fat from specific locations of a targeted muscle allowing for a more 3-dimensional appearance.

To completely understand the VASER® Hi Def Liposculpture technique, you must understand the origin of liposuction. Conventional liposuction “slims” specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits, helping to improve body contours and proportion. Most plastic surgeons who perform liposuction utilize the Tumescent technique which works by injecting a large amount of liquid containing Epinephrine, Lidocaine and saline into the areas of the body which contain excess fat. This process causes the fat to swell and become firm and separates the tissues. The result allows the cannula(a stainless steel, hollow tube inserted into the incision to suction fat) to travel through the fatty tissue easier. This technique has been performed in the U.S. safely and effectively for over 30 years and is a great solution to merely reduce overall circumference.

Pectoral enhancement diagrams.The term “Liposculpture” first appeared in 1991 and was described as a technique that "shapes the body by removing fat cells in areas where there is excess fat and/or by adding fat cells to areas where additional padding is desired”. This technique is far more advanced than standard liposuction and is highly dependent on the skill and artistic eye of the surgeon. Knowing what fat to remove and what fat cells to abstain from makes all the difference in the result. Add this technique to sophisticated ultra sound technology and the newest form of body sculpting-VASER® Hi Def Liposculpture- is discovered.

VASER® Hi Def Liposculpture uses deep, superficial and transitioning liposculpture techniques in specific anatomical areas, namely over the rectus abdominus, serratus magnus, external obliques, pectoralis major, inguinal ligaments, and in the sacral area, to create a more natural muscular appearance of the human form. VASER® Hi Def LipoSculpture recognizes how the anatomy of skin, fat and muscle control one’s appearance by defining the fat overlying these structures, contributing to the highly defined sculptured appearance of the human form. This technique is extremely advanced and should only be performed by highly trained plastic surgeons.
